MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive College senior Sharome Holloway has been named to the 2004-05 preseason NCAA Division II All-Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference men's basketball team.
The CVAC coaches submitted the votes.
Sharome Holloway
Holloway, a 6-foot-8 forward/center from Phoenix, Ariz., earned all-CVAC honorable mention last season, his first year at Mount Olive after transferring from South Mountain CC (Ariz.). Holloway averaged 8.1 points and 5.4 rebounds per game last year before a wrist injury sidelined him for the final month of the season.
In his final game before the injury, Holloway scored 20 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in the Trojans' 108-105 victory over nationally fourth-ranked and previously-unbeaten Pfeiffer. Holloway also earned CVAC Player of the Week honors after recording a double-double in Mount Olive's come-from-behind win at archrival Barton.
Mount Olive set a school record for most wins in a season and earned its first-ever NCAA II men's basketball tournament bid, falling to Alderson-Broaddus (W.Va.) in the opening round.
They also earned their first-ever national top 25 ranking. The Trojans posted a record of 23-8 overall and 15-5 in the CVAC. Mount Olive tied for second in the regular-season standings and was runner-up in the CVAC Tournament.
Joining Holloway on the preseason All-CVAC men's basketball team are Rico Grier (Pfeiffer), Rafael Moreira (Belmont Abbey), Brandon Shipman (Limestone) and B.J. Timmons (Queens).
Mount Olive plays a pair of exhibition games against Division I opponents UNC Wilmington (Nov. 6) and North Carolina (Nov. 12).
The Trojans officially open their season Nov. 19 in the 39th annual Pickle Classic -- a four-team, two-day tournament.
