Aycock clinches ECC crown
PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock's girls tennis team sealed an unbeaten conference season for the 26th straight year with a 7-2 win at home over Washington on Tuesday.
The Falcons (18-2 overall) finished 14-0 in the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference and have now won 282 matches in a row against conference opposition dating back to 1979. Aycock has played in four different conference's during that stretch.
Raychel Batts (19-1), Leslie Sasser (20-0), Carlyn Claiborne (19-1), Nicole Taylor (14-5) and Hadley Peacock (4-3) all claimed straight-set singles victories for the Falcons, who begin play in the ECC Championships at Herman Park on Thursday.
In doubles, Aycock's Sasser and Claiborne (18-0) and Batts and Taylor (5-0) won at numbers one and two, respectively.
The Falcons open the Class 3-A N.C. High School Athletic Association dual-team playoffs at home on Oct. 19 against the No. 3 seed from the Big Eight South Conference.

CBA drops non-league match
MOUNT OLIVE -- Charles B. Aycock's number two doubles combination of Katie Perry and Kristen Prosser emerged with an 8-4 win on Tuesday as the Falcons fell 6-3 to the Greenville Parks and Recreation team.
Aycock (10-6) also won by default at number six singles and number three doubles.
The Falcons continue play today at Wayne Community College against Wayne Country Day.
