North Lenoir claims share of EPC regular-season title

LAGRANGE -- North Lenoir clinched a share of its fourth consecutive Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference regular-season championship with a 25-11, 25-14, 25-9 conquest of North Pitt at Wooten Gymnasium on Thursday.

Randi Moulton delivered seven kills and didn't miss a serve in 25 attempts as the Hawks captured their 38th consecutive regular-season EPC victory. They can claim the title outright next Tuesday afternoon at SouthWest Edgecombe.

Leslie Oliver added eight kills and Shannon Plymouth contributed six kills.

North Lenoir is 18-1 overall and 8-0 in the EPC.

Goldsboro falls

in three sets

Goldsboro's Ashelyn James had six aces and two blocks in the Cougars' 25-14, 25-23, 25-23 loss at home against Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference opponent South Central.

Camille Early added three aces and four blocks. Shemika Hardy provided two aces and six digs.

The Cougars (2-15, 2-12 ECC) travel to Eastern Wayne next Tuesday afternoon.

Greene Central

survives Cougars

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central evened its Eastern Plains 2-A Conference slate at 4-4 with a 25-21, 19-25, 25-17, 19-25, 15-11 victory against SouthWest Edgecombe on Thursday afternoon.

Shennika King led the Rams with 11 kills, while Briana Stanton contributed seven.

Greene Central scored 18 points with Maria Pulido on serve.

The Rams (7-9) play Tarboro next Tuesday.

Tigers too tough

for Raiders to tame

SPIVEY'S CORNER -- James Kenan remained in contention for a state playoff berth with a come-from-behind 24-26, 25-23, 10-25, 25-17, 15-13 victory against Super Six 1-A rival Midway on Thursday afternoon.

The Tigers (9-8) climbed to 5-4 in the league and conclude regular-season play next Tuesday at Union.

Taylor Lanier, Jordan Griffin (one dig), Alisha Taber and Tracie Jones each played a strong all-around game for James Kenan.

Chargers earn

CPIC victory

WILSON -- Wayne Country Day claimed the final two sets and dumped Greenfield 25-23, 21-25, 25-15, 27-25 in a Coastal Plains Independent 1-A/2-A Conference match Thursday afternoon.

Heather Daughtery led the Chargers with match highs of nine kills and six aces, and picked up six digs on defense.

Amanda Benton added a match-high seven digs to go along with two aces, one block and four kills. Laura Ziemer provided four aces, three kills and five digs.

Amanda and Stephanie Knutson combined for three aces, four kills and three digs. Erin Taylor contributed four kills.

The Chargers (8-9, 5-2 CPIC) entertain Kerr-Vance next Tuesday afternoon.

North Pitt

LAGRANGE -- North Lenoir's Brynne Fulghum was 25-for-25 from the service line in the Hawks' 25-14, 25-9 win at home Eastern Plains 2-A rival North Pitt on Thursday.

Kaitlyn Howard added four kills for North Lenoir.

The Hawks (11-8, 5-3 EPC) travel to SouthWest Edgecombe on Tuesday.

Bulldogs top

Johnston rivals

PRINCETON -- Princeton's Cynthia Peedin had five aces and three kills to help push the Bulldogs past North Johnston 25-13, 25-23 in Carolina 1-A Conference play at home on Tuesday.

Heather Smith added three aces and one kill for Princeton.

The Bulldogs (7-9, 6-4 CC) are the guest of Farmville Central next Tuesday.

Golden Falcons

pick up ECC win

PIKEVILLE -- Sandra Overby said Charles B. Aycock put together a solid team effort to hand West Craven a 25-23, 25-16 loss in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play Thursday.

Laura Thigpen served eight aces.

Garrett Forrest and Shelley Lancaster played strong on defense for the Golden Falcons, who seized their ninth league win against one defeat.

C.B. Aycock (12-2) travels to West Carteret next Tuesday.

Eagles no

longer unbeaten

Rosewood tumbled from the unbeaten ranks -- overall and in Carolina 1-A Conference play -- after its 21-25, 25-10, 23-25 loss to North Johnston on Thursday afternoon.

Courtney Hill led the Eagles with a match-high four kills.

Aubrey Reinhard dished out a match-high six assists to go along with three kills and two aces. Chandra Meadows provided one kill and two aces.

Kasie Braswell and Roxie Phillips combined for three aces and two kills. Jamie Bold contributed one ace and two assists, while Ashley Williams delivered two kills.

Rosewood (17-1, 9-1 CC) is the guest of North Duplin next Tuesday.

sweeps Midway

SPIVEY'S CORNER -- Stephene Williamson collected two kills as James Kenan swept Midway 25-8, 25-6 in Super Six 1-A Conference action Thursday afternoon.

The Tigers scored 15 consecutive points with Lauren Houston on serve in the opening set. They picked up 21 points in the second set with Hannah Adams at the service line.

James Kenan (12-3, 8-1 SS) travels to Union next Tuesday.

WCDS gains

WILSON -- Ellen Elmore served three aces to go along with two kills in Wayne Country Day's 25-11, 25-11 conquest of Coastal Plains Independent 1-A/2-A rival Greenfield on Thursday afternoon.

Natalie Bryan added three aces for the Chargers, who evened their CPIC worksheet at 3-3.

Kayla Flanagan and Stephanie Sykes each served two aces. Brianne Radford and Jessica Larson combined for two aces.

Wayne Country Day (6-9) plays host to Kerr-Vance next Tuesday afternoon.
