LITTLEFIELD -- North Duplin prevailed in the opening set, but Ayden-Grifton stormed back for a 16-25, 25-17, 26-24, 28-26 victory in a Class 1-A Carolina Conference volleyball match Tuesday afternoon.
Sierra Ward led the Rebels with 18 kills and three blocks.
Bethany Malcolm contributed eight kills, five service aces and two blocks. Frontline mate Jamie Vinson provided two kills and four blocks.
Brittany Carr served five aces.
"This was a heartbreaking game," North Duplin coach Heather Best said. "We got so close in the final two and just couldn't pull it out. The game became very emotional and I think that affected their play.
"I told them to just play and enjoy the game, and not let the crowd or anyone else get to them."
