LITTLEFIELD -- North Duplin prevailed in the opening set, but Ayden-Grifton stormed back for a 16-25, 25-17, 26-24, 28-26 victory in a Class 1-A Carolina Conference volleyball match Tuesday afternoon.

Sierra Ward led the Rebels with 18 kills and three blocks.

Bethany Malcolm contributed eight kills, five service aces and two blocks. Frontline mate Jamie Vinson provided two kills and four blocks.

Brittany Carr served five aces.

"This was a heartbreaking game," North Duplin coach Heather Best said. "We got so close in the final two and just couldn't pull it out. The game became very emotional and I think that affected their play.

"I told them to just play and enjoy the game, and not let the crowd or anyone else get to them."

LITTLEFIELD -- Like the varsity, North Duplin sauntered into Ayden-Grifton's gym and claimed the opening set Tuesday afternoon. And like their varsity, the Chargers answered with a 17-25, 25-12, 26-24 victory in Carolina 1-A Conference play.

Jessica Pridgen led the Rebels with three kills, while Vanessa Lynch and Kayla Myers contributed two kills apiece. Lynch and Myers combined for five service aces.

Heather Hudson recorded one kill and one ace.

"We played a good match," Rebels coach Heather Best said. "We lost our momentum in the second game, but rebuilt it in game three. I am proud of our girls. They played hard and never quit."
