Trojans volleyball finishes 3-2 at Holiday Inn tourney

CLARION, PA. - Mount Olive won its first two matches Saturday before falling to tournament host Clarion at the Holiday Inn Volleyball Classic at Clarion, Pa. The Trojans posted a 3-2 record in the two-day tournament.

After splitting its first two pool play matches Friday, Mount Olive (15-7) defeated Marietta 29-31, 30-26, 30-27, 30-20 to finish pool play with a 2-1 mark. Heidi Busch led the Trojans with 24 kills, while Colby Mangum added a season-high 18 kills to go with eight blocks. Defensively, Busch tallied 15 digs, while Chasity Oxendine had 14 digs and Sam Mitchell finished with 13 digs.

The Trojans opened bracket play with a three-game victory over Lycoming as Busch netted 16 kills and Mitchell had 13 kills. Candice Collins recorded six kills in six attempts. Mangum and Mitchell served three aces apiece.

Mount Olive won the opening game against Clarion, but Clarion rallied for a 28-30, 30-16, 35-33, 30-18 victory. Busch finished with 21 kills to give her 24 consecutive matches finishing in double figures in kills. Mitchell added 20 kills and three aces, while Mangum tallied 14 kills and eight blocks. Sara Christie finished with 48 assists. Busch added 15 digs, Ashley Napoles added 14 digs and Nikki Murphy finished with 13 digs.

Mount Olive returns to action Tuesday as the Trojans travel to Raleigh, N.C., to face Shaw in a non-conference match-up.

Trojans Split First Two Matches At Holiday Inn Volleyball Classic

CLARION, PA. - Heidi Busch had 12 kills and Sara Christie served six aces to lead Mount Olive to a 30-21, 30-19, 30-22 victory over Alderson-Broaddus as the Trojans opened pool play Friday at the Holiday Inn Classic at Clarion, Pa. Christie recorded 27 assists, while Ashley Napoles added four aces.

In the second match, Mount Olive fell to Slippery Rock 30-18, 30-23, 30-27. Busch reached double figures in kills for the 21st consecutive match with 11 kills. Busch also had a team-high four blocks, while Colby Mangum added three blocks.

Mount Olive (13-6) is 1-1 in the tournament with one pool play match remaining. The Trojans face Marietta (Ohio) Saturday at 10:30 a.m., then move onto bracket play.

Also competing in the tournament are Geneva, Lycoming, West Chester and tournament host Clarion.
