Insley shines
for Trojan harriers
RICHMOND, Va. -- Mount Olive College runner Tim Insley notched his best finish of the year, placing ninth out of 37 runners in the men's 8k Friday at the Ukrops Cross Country Festival at Maymont in Richmond, Va.
Insley ran the course in a time of 27:24. Christof Franzsen finished 21st with a time of 31:28, while Alan Fricks finished 31st with a time of 38:32. The Trojans did not have enough runners available to qualify for the team competition.
In the women's 5k, Mount Olive placed sixth out of seven teams. Becky Garrod was the Trojans' top finisher, placing 34th out of 49 runners with a time of 24:17. Tamika Goff finished 36th with a time of 25:08, a fraction of a second ahead of Charlene Spadaccini, who also clocked in at 25:08. Jillian Pruett finished 41st with a time of 27:45 and Nikki Ross placed 48th at 33:30.
Richmond won both the men's and women's team competitions.
Mount Olive heads to Hickory Saturday as the Trojans compete in the Lenoir-Rhyne College Invitational.

Aycock shuts out Vikings
KINSTON -- Thoms Pilkington threw three touchdown passes and went 8-for-11 for 1984 yards as Charles B. Aycock;'s JV team beat Kinston 38-0 Thursday night.
Joseph Toler, Fred McClain and Kyle Williams all had rushing touchdowns for the Falcons, with Timothy Alston, Erik Taylro and Daniel Pennington catching touchdown passes. Aycock ran for 264 yards, with Williams carrying the ball 15 times for 85 yards to lead the attack. Toler hauled in two passes for 75 yards.
McClain and Trevario Uzzell both had five tackles and a sack each to pace the Aycock defense. The Falcons (4-1) take on West Craven on Thursday.
Correction
In Sunday's story about the Charles B. Aycock football game, a typographical error incorrectly reflected the tackle totals for Cortez Giblert, who had 14 solo tackles in the game against Kinston. We regret the error.
