Goldsboro 32
West Carteret 14
Brandon Davis caught three touchdown passes and quarterback Tim Kornegay accounted for another score in a Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference contest at Cougar Stadium.
Davis finished with 186 yards receiving on three catches with the touchdowns covering 82, 13 and 91 yards.
Hykeem Coley collected a four-yard touchdown run in the fourth. Kornegay also scored on a 71-yard run as the Cougars scored the game's final 26 points.
Iveon Sprangle emerged Goldsboro's top rusher with 85 yards on seven carries, while Coley had eight totes for 82 yards.
Brandon Stokes and Justin Hall spearheaded the Cougar defense with nine tackles apiece. Dante Love and A.J. Holloway each recorded five tackles. Davis notched three interceptions and Carlos King had one pick.
The Cougars entertain South Central next Thursday.
West Craven 28
Eastern Wayne 26 (OT)
VANCEBORO -- West Craven stopped a critical two-point conversion in overtime and nipped Eastern Wayne in their Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference contest Thursday.
Anthony O'tellio completed 6 of 12 passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns for the Warriors. Alfino Daniels grabbed three passes for 80 yards, including a touchdown.
Orlando Midgett led the Eastern Wayne ground attack with 68 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries. Backfield mate Brandon May added 29 yards and a touchdown on eight attempts.
Daniels paced the defense with 10 tackles. Nolan Lancaster and Dwight Ulmer each had nine stops.
Eastern Wayne (1-5, 0-4 ECC) returns to action Oct. 14 at home against Goldsboro.
Rosewood 21
North Johnston 13
Rosewood remained unbeaten on the Carolina 1-A Conference scene with a victory against North Johnston at Branch Pope Field.
Three players scored one touchdown apiece for the Eagles, who climbed to 5-1 overall and 2-0 against Carolina opposition. They conclude their conference schedule next Thursday at Farmville Central.
Devon Bennett put the Eagles on the board with a 52-yard run at the 7-minute, 2-second mark in the opening quarter. Cameron Lowe added the first of three successful PATs.
Quarterback Josh Myers hooked up with Anthony Gibson on an 80-yard scoring strike with six seconds left in the first period. Lowe's second PAT gave the Eagles a 14-0 lead that they would carry into halftime.
Anthony Gibson finished off Rosewood's scoring with a 50-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Lowe kicked the PAT for a 21-0 advantage with 7:53 to go.
The Panthers scored two second-half touchdowns.
"They played us very tough, and gave us good looks on offense and defense," Eagles coach Daniel Baynes said.
Middle schools
Goldsboro 28, Brogden 20 -- Antonio Parker rushed for close to 180 yards and three touchdowns as the Cougars upended the previously-unbeaten Rams. Tim Hobbs added a touchdown. The Goldsboro defense picked off two Brogden passes. The Cougars (5-0) travel to Greenwood next Thursday.
Greenwood 18, Norwayne 6 -- Antonio Houpe scored touchdowns on runs of five and 30 yards, while Ben Dunlow added a four-yard plunge for the T-Birds. Greenwood (4-2, 1-1) entertains Goldsboro next Thursday.
Spring Creek 44, Mount Olive 8 -- Five players recorded at least one touchdown apiece for the Gators. Tamarcus Ellis broke loose on touchdown runs of 52 and 10 yards. Brad Gross (71 yards) and Jabari Dos Santos (50 yards) each added a rushing TD. Quarterback Tray King completed a 27-yard scoring strike to Rashard Oliver, while Allen Price had a "pick six" -- a 70-yard interception return for a TD. Daniel Ward, Gil Broadway and Garrett Shivar each had four tackles on defense. Spring Creek (3-3) remained unbeaten in Wayne County Middle School Athletic Conference Division II play at 2-0.
Eastern Wayne 40, Rosewood 0 -- Stacey Edwards rushed for 156 yards and three touchdowns. Reco McCarter returned an interception 20 yards for a TD and also grabbed a 25-yard TD pass. Steven Hall also snagged a 25-yard touchdown pass. Edwards posted seven tackles on defense. Cody Kirkham chipped in with six tackles and recovered a fumble. Cody Britt registered six tackles, recovered a fumble and blocked a kick. Eastern Wayne (5-1) plays host to Norwayne next Thursday.
Dillard 32, Grantham 0 -- Darren Pittman rushed for touchdowns of 55 and 35 yards, while Antwan Pope added a 20-yard TD run. Jakkar Pettaway added a five-yard touchdown. Johnathan Williams returned an interception 70 yards for another score. Hyonte Atkinson and Antonio Hines each had six tackles on defense. Dillard (4-2, 2-0 WCMSAC Division II) travels to Spring Creek next Thursday.
