While both teams beat the weather, Eastern Wayne ended up with the win over Goldsboro Tuesday in an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference tennis match played at Wayne Community College's courts.

A blustery, overcast afternoon saw the players fend off occasional sprinkles and get in the match. The Warriors ended up with an 8-1 decision, blanking the Cougars in five of the six pro-set singles matches and taking two of the three doubles matches by 8-1 scores.

Top-seeded Anna Weeks was one of five twin winners for Eastern Wayne (5-7 ECC). Weeks shut out Goldsboro's Jessica Faison 8-0, setting the pace for teammates Tricia Chatman, Lauren Bynum, Ashley Smith and Ashley Miller, who also posted singles and doubles wins.

Goldsboro's Quionna Bryant had a strong day, beating the Warriors' Brandi Butts 8-6 in singles and joining Faison to battle Weeks and Butts in doubles. Down 5-2, the Cougar duo rebounded to tie the match at 5-5 before falling short 8-5.

Goldsboro fell to 1-11 in league play.

Eastern Wayne takes on Southern Wayne Thursday at the Saints home courts in Dudley, while on the same day Goldsboro will travel to Kinston.
