Clarke helps Faith Christian to first MACAA victory

Elizabeth Clarke provided four kills as Faith Christian rallied past Bethel Christian 24-26, 25-12, 25-16, 25-11 in a Mid-Atlantic Christian Athletic Association Class 2-A match Tuesday.

The Conquerors improved to 1-2 in the MACAA.

Clarke also served an ace. Teammate Christina Charles collected three kills, four aces and one dig. Summer Honeycutt contributed three kills and one ace.

Heather Crumpler and Christina Jones combined for four aces and two digs.

"The girls played very well in all of the games tonight," Conquerors coach Jamie Conlon said. "They have continued to improve."

Faith Christian returns to action at home Oct. 11 against Hilltop.

Chargers collect

CPIC 1-A/2-A win

ROCKY MOUNT -- Amanda Knutson registered eight kills as Wayne Country Day thumped Rocky Mount Academy 25-18, 12-25, 26-24, 25-18 in a Coastal Plains Independent 1-A/2-A Conference match Tuesday.

Knutson also served an ace and had a dig on defense for the Chargers, who rose to 3-2 in the CPIC. Amanda Benton complemented Knutson's strong net play with seven kills to go along with five aces and four digs.

Laura Ziemer collected three aces, one block, two kills and one dig. Heather Daughtery added five aces, three kills and six digs.

Stephanie Knutson had four digs.

"They played together and had fun," first-year Chargers coach Juliet Jones said. "I am really proud of how they stepped up."

Wayne Country Day (6-7) entertains Oxford Orphanage on Friday.

Rosewood prevails

in Carolina 1-A play

Rosewood continued its quest for a playoff berth with a 25-21, 25-17, 7-25, 25-13 victory against Carolina 1-A Conference rival Ayden-Grifton on Tuesday.

The Eagles (10-4) climbed to 5-3 in the conference and remained one game behind North Johnston for second place in the seven-team league.

Senior middle hitter Jessica Hill recorded 11 kills and four blocks in the four-set match. Morgan Wheeler added five kills, three digs and two blocks. Katy Morris had six kills and two digs.

Clare Narron dished out six assists to go along with three digs and one ace.

Rosewood entertains Spring Creek at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Princeton knocks

off Spring Creek

PRINCETON -- Brittany Davis dished out a match-high 20 assists as Princeton swept Spring Creek 25-12, 25-10, 25-15 in Carolina 1-A Conference play Tuesday.

Stephanie Daughtry and Nicole Hargis combined for 13 kills and eight aces in the straight-set win. Sarah Gibbs added five kills, while Brittany Rose had two kills.

Kristen Parker served six aces.

"The girls played very strong and consistent all three games," Bulldogs coach Trudy Rast said. "With Melissa Worley out sick, I was very happy with Brittany. She stepped up and did an excellent job.

"Again, we had a great effort from everyone on the team. We need to play with this strength (and) consistency against North Duplin Thursday."

Princeton (10-7, 5-3 CC) is the guest of the Rebels.

Hawks dump

Tarboro in three

TARBORO -- Three-time defending Eastern Plains 2-A Conference champion North Lenoir dismantled Tarboro 25-16, 25-7, 25-18 on Tuesday afternoon.

The Hawks (15-1) remained unbeaten in five EPC outings and extended their regular-season conference win streak to 35 games. They begin second-half play at home Thursday against archrival South Lenoir.

Senior middle hitter Randi Moulton blistered the Viking defense with 11 kills to go along with five blocks. Shannon Plymouth delivered 10 kills, while outside hitter Leslie Oliver chipped in nine kills.

Brittany Sanders contributed six kills and one ace.

Senior Chanee Lynch added two kills and two blocks.

"Chanee did an excellent job setting up the different hitters and moving the ball around (the net)," North Lenoir coach Heather Humphrey said. "Rachel Cromer played well defensively for us."

Rams drop three

sets to Blue Devils

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central's Briana Stanton served on 20 points in a 25-19, 25-17, 25-19 home loss against Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference rival South Lenoir on Tuesday.

Peoria Wade served on 15 points for the Rams (5-8), who dropped to 3-2 in the conference.

Greene Central travels to North Pitt on Thursday.

Panthers keep

hold on second place

KENLY -- North Johnston kept its grip on second place in the Carolina 1-A Conference with a 28-26, 24-26, 25-8, 25-12 victory against North Duplin on Tuesday afternoon.

The Panthers (12-4) improved to 5-2 in the conference and remained ahead of third-place Rosewood.

North Johnston entertains defending Carolina champ Farmville Central on Thursday.

upends So. Wayne

DUDLEY -- Amelia Byrd registered six kills as South Central bounced back from an opening-set loss to defeat Southern Wayne 11-25, 25-20, 25-11, 25-17 in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference action Tuesday.

Nicole Nunamaker added five kills for the Falcons, who climbed to 7-3 in the ECC and remained in contention for one of the league's three playoff berths.

Jessie Odom served five aces.

Southern Wayne travels to Charles B. Aycock this afternoon.

Courtney Hill turned in a team-high four kills as Rosewood swept Ayden-Grifton 25-15, 25-23 in Carolina 1-A Conference play Tuesday.

Kasie Braswell contributed two digs and one kill.

Roxie Phillips added one kill and one assist. Chandra Meadows served one ace, while Ashley Williams dished out one assist.

The Eagles (14-0, 8-0 CC) play host to Spring Creek on Thursday.

Hawks suffer

EPC 2-A setback

TARBORO -- North Lenoir captured the first set, but couldn't keep the momentum in a 26-24, 11-25, 12-25 loss Tuesday afternoon at Eastern Plains 2-A foe Tarboro.

Brittany McPhail led the Hawks with four kills.

North Lenoir scored 11 points with Brynne Fulghum on serve and five points with Lindsey Phillips at the service line.

The Hawks (3-2 EPC) play host to South Lenoir on Thursday.

Panthers sweep

North Duplin

KENLY -- North Johnston climbed to 4-3 in Carolina 1-A Conference play with a 25-17, 25-23 victory against North Duplin.

The Panthers are 7-6 overall.
