Goldsboro quarterback Tim Kornegay threw a game-winning, 47-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Davis with 36 seconds remaining in a Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference victory against Washington on Thursday.

Kornegay finished the game with 151 yards passing and three touchdowns on 5 of 10 attempts. He completed a first-quarter touchdown strike to T.J. Kornegay and a second-quarter scoring pass to Davis with 58 seconds remaining.

Iveon Spangler led the Cougar ground attack with 112 yards.

Justin Hall, Brandon Stokes and A.J. Holloway each had six tackles for Goldsboro.

Southern Wayne 8

PIKEVILLE -- Thomas Pilkington threw three touchdown passes as Charles B. Aycock defeated Southern Wayne in an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference contest at Hardy Talton Stadium.

Pilkington completed touchdown passes to Erik Taylor (46 yards), Joseph Toler (14 yards) and Timothy Alston (35 yards). Pilkington finished with 197 yards on 7 of 8 attempts.

Chris Foreman emerged the top receiver with 93 yards on three receptions. Taylor, Alston and Toler each snagged one catch; while Nick Weaver caught one pass for nine yards.

Kyle Williams concluded Aycock's scoring with a seven-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

Travis Milligan paced the Golden Falcon defense with 12 tackles, while Taylor contributed 10. Toler and Jarrett Covar each recorded six stops.

C.B. Aycock (3-1) ran just 27 offensive plays compared to 48 for the Saints. However, the Golden Falcons owned a 264-175 advantage in total yards.

Anthony Council (116 yards) scored the Saints' lone touchdown, a 40-yard run late in the fourth quarter. Michael Holland added the two-point conversion.

Southern Wayne (3-2, 2-1 ECC) takes next week off before entertaining West Carteret on Oct. 7.

Rosewood 35

Ayden-Grifton 14

LITTLEFIELD -- Rosewood erased a 14-point first-quarter deficit and knocked off Ayden-Grifton in the Class 1-A Carolina Conference opener for both teams Thursday.

The Chargers scored twice midway through the opening period before the Eagles caught fire.

Quarterback Josh Myers broke loose for a 43-yard run and Cameron Lowe added the first of four PATs to make it 14-7. Devon Bennett added a 35-yard run and Lowe added his second PAT for a 14-14 tie heading into halftime.

Bennett added touchdown runs of 43 and 85 yards in the second half. Teammate Anthony Gibson concluded the scoring with a 10-yard run.

Rosewood coach Daniel Baynes credited the defense, especially Drake Webster and Jonathan Peedin, for shutting out Ayden-Grifton after the first quarter.

The Eagles (4-1, 1-0 Carolina) entertain North Johnston next Thursday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Branch Pope Field.

Middle schools

Goldsboro 28, Spring Creek 8 -- Tyquan Spangler rushed for two touchdowns, while Antonio Parker and Tim Hobbs each added one touchdown. Malcolm Artis, Jonathan Williams and Carlos Atkinson played well on defense. Goldsboro (4-0) entertains Brogden next Thursday afternoon.

Grantham 30, Mount Olive 22 -- Monterio Brewington rushed for more than 200 yards and scored four touchdowns in the Bulldogs' first win of the season. Sean Peele recorded three solo tackles on defense. L.J. Lewis and Jvaris McMillan each sacked the Mount Olive quarterback twice. Grantham (1-4) evened its Wayne County Middle School Athletic Conference Division II worksheet at 1-1. The Bulldogs are the guest of Dillard next Thursday afternoon.

Dillard 42, Rosewood 8 -- Antwan Pope rushed for three touchdowns on runs of 70, 30 and 1 yards. Darren Pittman added touchdowns on runs of 70, 25 and 5 yards. Johnathan Williams and Antonio Hines each recorded eight tackles, while Chris Suggs intercepted the Rosewood quarterback once. Dillard (3-2, 1-0 WCMSAC Division II) entertains Grantham next Thursday.

Brogden 42, Norwayne 26 -- Kenneth Casper III rushed for 225 yards and scored three touchdowns. Scott Holloman, Adrian Amerson and Charles Broggi scored one touchdown apiece. Casper emerged the defensive leader with seven stops. Broggi recovered a fumble and had five tackles. Holloman recorded six tackles with two hits behind the line of scrimmage. Amerson had three tackles with two quarterback sacks. Brogden (5-0, 2-0 Division I) travels to Goldsboro next Thursday, while Norwayne entertains Greenwood.

Eastern Wayne 44, Greenwood 6 -- Stacey Edwards rushed for 166 yards and three touchdowns. Jenieri Cyrus added 50 yards and two touchdowns. Will White led the Warrior defense with eight tackles and recovered a fumble. Antonio Braswell contributed seven tackles. Cody Britt and Antonio Cox collected five tackles apiece. Eastern Wayne (4-1, 1-1 Division I) travels to Rosewood next Thursday.
