Eastern Wayne breezes past Kinston

KINSTON -- Kristin Elliott provided seven kills and served four aces as Eastern Wayne swept Kinston 25-23, 25-18, 25-19 in Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference action Tuesday.

Megan Pittman added four aces, while Anna Wilkins contributed four kills.

"We served a lot better than we've been serving," Warriors coach Bruce Burridge said. "Defensively, we're coming together, but our ball-handling is not as strong as I want it to be.

"It seems like we concentrate on one thing, fix it and then something else slips through the cracks. Kinston is better than they have been in the past."

Eastern Wayne (3-5 ECC) entertains Havelock this afternoon.

Golden Falcons

take road victory

WASHINGTON -- Charles B. Aycock rebounding from an opening-set loss to defeat Washington 21-25, 25-19, 25-13, 25-14 in an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference affair Tuesday.

Lindsey Newman paced the Golden Falcons with eight kills. Jenny Jackson and Stefanie Ballance each served six aces.

Aycock coach Davis Harris said Caroline Potter and Jazzmine Lee played well on the back line.

The Golden Falcons (10-2, 7-1 ECC) begin second-half play Thursday afternoon at Goldsboro.

Hawks extend

EPC streak to 33

BETHEL -- North Lenoir captured its 33rd consecutive regular-season victory in the Eastern Plains 2-A Conference with a 25-19, 25-13, 25-11 conquest of North Pitt on Tuesday.

Randi Moulton led the Hawks with 11 kills, while Brittany Sanders added five kills.

Leslie Oliver provided two blocks.

The Hawks scored 26 points with Chanee Lynch on serve.

North Lenoir (13-1, 3-0) plays host to SouthWest Edgecombe on Thursday. Game time is 5 p.m. at Wooten Gymnasium.

Wayne Christian

prevails in CCC play

RALEIGH -- Wayne Christian rallied from behind in the fifth set to defeat Trinity Christian of Raleigh 18-25, 25-18, 25-23, 23-25, 15-13 in Carolina Christian 1-A Conference action Tuesday.

Emily Reesman sparked the Eagles with seven aces and seven kills. Teammate Amanda Bradley contributed five aces, while Melissa Sheldon and Ashley Clark had three apiece.

"We, as a team, picked it up when needed and made some spectacular plays," Eagles coach Roger Longwell said.

The Eagles (7-2, 3-2 CCC) travel to Village Christian in Fayetteville on Thursday.

North Johnston

handles S. Creek

SEVEN SPRINGS -- North Johnston remained tied with Rosewood for second place in the Carolina 1-A Conference title race after a 25-10, 25-16, 25-14 victory at Spring Creek.

Gators coach Deanna Morris said Tomeka Pride emerged as the team's top server.

The Panthers won their fourth straight match.

Spring Creek, now 1-6 in the Carolina Conference, entertains archrival North Duplin at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Greene Central

rallies past Cougars

PINETOPS -- Greene Central stumbled its way through the first two sets before claiming a 12-25, 23-25, 27-25, 25-13, 15-10 victory against SouthWest Edgecombe on Tuesday afternoon.

The Rams scored 31 points with Amber Morris on serve. They combined for 30 points with Brianna Stanton and Teketia May on serve.

Greene Central (4-9, 2-1 EPC) entertains Tarboro at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Conquerors

still seek a win

Holly Dawson and Rebecca Smith each set the ball with consistency Tuesday afternoon, but Faith Christian struggled offensively in a 25-7, 25-11, 25-13 loss against Berean Christian of Fayetteville.

Smith and Elizabeth Clarke led the defense with one dig apiece.

Faith Christian remained winless in seven outings and travels to Falls Road Baptist of Rocky Mount on Friday.

Rosewood eases

past Princeton

Rosewood remained unbeaten in Carolina 1-A Conference play with a 25-14, 25-14 decision against archrival Princeton.

The Eagles (12-0, 6-0) travel to Farmville Central on Thursday.

Warriors sweep

Kinston in ECC

KINSTON -- Alex Cotto served a season-high 18 aces as Eastern Wayne improved dumped Kinston 25-8, 25-11 in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play Tuesday.

The Warriors scored 21 points with Cotto on serve in the opening set. Teammate Summer Worrell had 11 straight points on serve in the second set.

"Summer is a defensive specialist and Cotto plays all round (the rotation)," Eastern Wayne coach Bruce Burridge said. "They carried the team and kept the momentum up."

Eastern Wayne improved to 6-2 in the ECC.

WASHINGTON -- Kaitlyn Stafford provided eight aces and Laura Thigpen added seven in C.B. Aycock's 25-10, 25-11 victory against Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference rival Washington.

Amy Fryt contributed two kills.

Aycock (9-2) climbed to 6-1 in the ECC.

North Lenoir

earns EPC victory

BETHEL -- Kaitlyn Howard collected four kills and Kasey Harrison added three kills as North Lenoir thumped North Pitt 25-13, 25-19 in Eastern Plains 2-A Conference action Tuesday.

Howard had nine points on serve, while Brynne Fulghum had eight points on serve.

North Lenoir (8-6, 2-1 EPC) entertains SouthWest Edgecombe on Thursday.

Spring Creek

bounces back

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek dropped the opening set, but bounced back to defeat North Johnston 13-25, 25-12, 25-23 in a Carolina 1-A Conference encounter Tuesday afternoon.

Gators coach Deanna Morris said Brittany Billups dominated at the net and Brooke Albertson led the team in serving.
