Spring Creek upends Farmville Central

FARMVILLE -- Spring Creek exploded for a school-record seven goals in the second half and stormed past Farmville Central 7-5 in a Class 1-A Carolina/Super Six Conference match Tuesday.

The Jaguars built a 4-0 lead in the first half on Edgar Cardona's natural hat trick (three straight goals) and Brandon Walton's penalty kick.

"During the first half of the game, we did not play like a team," Spring Creek coach Christy Shivar said. "However, in the second half, we came out with a vision and a goal.

"We played like the team we are and should have been (in the first half) in the second half. Unfortunately, it took forty minutes to get our heads in the game. Fortunately, we did and came back for our first conference victory of the season."

Ricardo Ramirez ignited the second-half scoring surge with an unassisted goal. Jonathan Reyes, Darwin Aldana and Juan Ramirez each scored twice as the Gators prevailed for just the second time in six outings this season.

Darin Straub had two assists, while Phat Tran had one.

Spring Creek (2-4, 1-2 C/SS) is the guest of Ayden-Grifton this evening.

Chargers take

CPIC opener

ROCKY MOUNT -- Kevin Logan tallied the hat trick (three goals) and added two assists as state-ranked Wayne Country Day hammered Rocky Mount Academy 6-0 on Tuesday.

It was the Coastal Plains Independent 1-A/2-A opener for both teams.

Logan scored in the fourth, sixth and 43rd minutes. He assisted Sam Steed on a crossing shot in the 62nd minute.

David Wilson headed in a goal off Chris Reed's assist and Reed finished the first-half scoring on a Logan assist.

Goalie Ryan Ford collected 15 saves.

"It was the best performance I've seen by a goalie since I've been here," Wayne Country Day coach Michael Taylor said. "He was unbelievable. The defense was tremendous ... the best game we've played all year long.

"Every scoring opportunity started with our defense with the midfielders moving the ball around and getting it to our forwards."

The defense recorded its fourth shutout of the year.

The Chargers (7-2-1, 1-0 CPIC) are ranked No. 5 in the latest N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association poll. They continue play at home Thursday against Flora MacDonald.

Faith Christian

drops tough loss

Freddy Ignot picked up two goals and an assist as Faith Christian endured a tough 5-4 loss in overtime against Berean Christian in a N.C. Christian Schools Association Coastal Region 2-A match Tuesday.

Ignot scored in the 14th minute off Will Smith's assist and 23 minutes into the second half.

Stephen Sloan and Jason Bone, off Ignot's assist, each tallied a second-half goal.

Conqueror keeper Jonathan Ziegler had 14 saves.

Faith Christian fell to 5-2 overall.

ROCKY MOUNT -- Jimmy Larson and Cameron Strickland each notched a goal in a 4-2 loss at Rocky Mount Academy in Coastal Plains Independent 1-A/2-A Conference play.

The Chargers fell to 2-2 overall.
