Chargers fight past Flora MacDonald

Wayne Country Day's Laura Ziemer had 10 aces and two digs as the Chargers claimed a hard-fought, 25-20, 21-25, 25-10, 15-25, 15-8 win at home over Flora MacDonald on Monday.

Amanda Knuston added nine aces and eight digs for the Chargers, who improved to 5-5 overall. Heather Daughtery had three kills and four digs.

Wayne Country Day hosts Flora MacDonald in a rematch on Thursday at home.

Cougars fall

Goldsboro's Ashelyn James posted seven kills and three blocks in a 25-20, 25-17, 20-25, 25-17 loss at home to James Kenan on Monday at home.

Goldsboro (2-8) hosts C.B. Aycock on Thursday.

Lakewood sweeps

North Duplin

CALYPSO -- North Duplin's Bethany Malcolm served on 13 points, while providing five aces and four kills in a 25-17, 25-20, 25-23 home loss to Lakewood on Monday.

Sierra Ward added five kills and five digs for the Rebels, who travel to Spring Creek on Thursday.

Flora MacDonald

Wayne Country Day's Ellen Elmore had five aces, five assists and four kills to boost the Chargers to a 25-18, 25-12 win at home against Flora MacDonald.

Kayla Flanagan added five aces and two kills for Wayne Country Day, who improved to 3-5 overall heading into a rematch with Flora MacDonald on Thursday.

Rebels topped

at home

CALYPSO -- North Duplin's Vanessa Lynch had 13 saves and had five aces in a 17-25, 25-18, 25-20 loss at home to Lakewood on Monday.

Courtney Jackson served on 17 points with three aces for the Rebels, who travel to Spring Creek on Thursday.

Middle School

Norwayne d. Brogden 25-14, 25-18, 25-12 -- Cynthia Burroughs and Jennifer Warren paced the Cobras (4-0, 2-0) from the service line. Norwayne travels to Greenwood on Sept. 27.

Eastern Wayne d. Greenwood 25-20, 25-21, 23-25, 25-22 -- Mollie Musgrave, Caitlin Turner and Miranda Smith led Eastern Wayne (4-1, 2-0) from the service line. The Warriors host Rosewood on Sept. 27.

Rosewood d. Wayne Christian 13-25, 25-11, 19-25, 25-13, 15-11 -- Paige Babb, Christie Phillips and Kalin Bennett paced Rosewood from the service line. Brooke Norris led Wayne Christian. Rosewood (3-2) travels to Eastern Wayne on Sept. 27.

Mount Olive d. Grantham 25-15, 25-18, 25-20 -- Hannah McArthur, Melissa Ewers, Lauren Darden led Mount Olive from the service line. Mount Olive (4-1) travels to Spring Creek on Sept. 27.

Spring Creek d. Goldsboro 25-9, 12-25, 21-25, 25-17, 15-10 -- Lisa Mozingo, Jordan Coor and Jessica Lewis paced the Gators' effort. Spring Creek (2-3) hosts Mount Olive on Sept. 27.
