DEEP RUN -- Bad weather delayed the start of Friday's high school football game between South Lenoir and Princeton for almost an hour.
For the Blue Devils, it sure was worth the wait.
South Lenoir came out of the locker room clicking on all cylinders, rolling up a 30-point halftime lead en route to its first win of the season, 36-21 over the visiting Bulldogs.
The victory was also South Lenoir's first at home since an 18-6 win over SouthWest Edgecombe in 2002.
Alberto Chedrani returned an interception 18 yards for a touchdown, fullback Carlos Amaya ran over the Bulldog defense for a 10-yard score and Jonathan Hernandez ran for two other scores, including a school record 99-yard explosion with 7:02 left in the second quarter.
Hernandez ended the night with 128 yards rushing on just seven carries. In addition to his two touchdowns, he also squelched a first-half Princeton scoring threat with an interception in the end zone.
South Lenoir increased the lead to 36-0 with a 12-play, six-minute drive to open the second half. Quarterback Brandon Rouse found Paul Novicki all alone for a 35-yard scoring strike.
Princeton took advantage of fatigued Blue Devil defense to score three late touchdowns. Quarterback Bren Hall threw two touchdown passes to Decorious Scarboro and Patrick Gatewood, and Scarboro scored on a 12-yard run to pace the Bulldogs. Hall ended his night with 210 yards on 10-of-22 passing, a big part of Princeton's 310 total yards.
The Bulldogs will travel to Spring Creek on Friday.
