ROSEBORO -- Spring Creek's Lelo Burt had two receiving touchdowns of over 25 yards as the Gators fell 38-22 at Lakewood on Friday night.
Burt finished the game with eight catches for 142 yards as he remains one of the top receivers in the area. Gator quarterback Michael Wright was 11-for-19 for 178 yards passing with one interception -- filling in for the injured Mychael King.
Ricky Mason paced the Spring Creek ground attack with 98 yards on 15 carries, including a 51-yard touchdown.
David Estrada added a 35-yard field goal for Spring Creek, which dropped its 10th straight game dating back to last season.
Spring Creek (0-4) trimmed Lakewood's margin to 24-22 late in the fourth quarter and nearly recovered an onsides kick that would have given them a chance to take the lead.
The Gators are off next week and face Princeton at home on Sept. 24.
"After our performance against Midway last week, we regrouped and I thought we played much better last night," Spring Creek coach Roy Whitfield said. "I thought we played hard last night and showed a lot of character. I feel good going into the (Class 1-A Carolina) conference season."
Spring Creek expects to get defensive tackle Jimmy Ward, who has missed the last three games, back for the Princeton game.
