KINSTON -- Anthony Council accounted for 347 all-purpose yards as Southern Wayne opened its Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference season Thursday evening.
Council rushed for 247 yards and scored touchdowns on runs of 4 and 78 yards. The freshman also caught a 15-yard pass and returned the second-half kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown.
Backfield mates Emanuel Hinton and Joseph Legg combined for 102 yards.
Saints quarterback Michael Holland completed 4 of 6 passes for 55 yards, including a 13-yard touchdown pass to Antwan Chestnut. Eric Futrell caught a two-point conversion pass from Holland.
Mike Allen emerged the defensive leader with six solo stops and nine assists. Phillip Jones had seven assists. Thomas Oliver recorded four solo tackles and intercepted a pass. Jeremy Hargrove sacked the Viking quarterback once.
Southern Wayne (2-1, 1-0 ECC) entertains South Central next Thursday.

Roanoke Rapids 22
Josh Myers rushed for two touchdowns and threw for another touchdown as the Eagles cruised past Roanoke Rapids in a non-conference game at Branch Pope Field.
Myers' runs covered 70 and 10 yards, and he completed a 30-yard scoring pass to Devon Bennett in the third quarter. Bennett broke loose for a 55-yard touchdown in the opening quarter.
Anthony Gibson tallied a first-quarter touchdown. Byron Cavenaugh concluded the Eagles' scoring with a 75-yard interception return in the fourth.
Cory Whitten successfully converted three PATs.
Eagles coach Daniel Baynes said Anthony Bagley, Robert Franks and Andre Everett emerged the defensive leaders.
Rosewood (2-1) entertains Chocowinity Southside next Thursday.

C.B. Aycock quarterback Thomas Pilkington threw for 117 yards and two touchdowns in the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference opener for both teams at Cougar Stadium.
Pilkington completed a 24-yard touchdown pass to Chris Foreman and a 36-yard strike to Joseph Toler. Pilkington connected with five different receivers in the game.
Fred McClain led the Golden Falcons' rushing attack with 38 yards on four totes. Toler added 35 yards on 14 carries.
Foreman and Jarrett Covar spearheaded the defense with 10 tackles apiece, while Travis Milligan provided eight tackles.
The Cougars' Hykeem Coley scored the game's first touchdown -- a 27-yard gallop in the opening quarter. Coley finished with 50 yards rushing on 11 carries.
Tim Kornegay completed a touchdown pass to Brandon Davis and added two, two-point conversion runs.
Justin Hall emerged Goldsboro's top tackler with nine stops. Cedric McClary and Carlos Mumford each added eight tackles.
C.B. Aycock (2-1, 1-0 ECC) takes next Thursday off before entertaining county rival Southern Wayne on Sept. 23. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Hardy Talton Stadium.
Goldsboro (2-1, 0-1 ECC) travels to defending ECC champion West Craven next Thursday.

Ayden-Grifton 8
LITTLEFIELD -- William Price rushed for two touchdowns and Damien Phillips added a 55-yard ramble as Greene Central hammered Ayden-Grifton in non-conference action.
Price scored on runs of 55 and 2 yards in a 72-yard rushing effort.
Rams quarterback Cameron Shelton finished the game 10 of 13 for 103 yards including touchdown passes to Reggie Johnson and Steven Vines.
Curtis Braswell, Justin Tyson and Eric Johnson led the defense.
Greene Central (2-1) travels to Farmville Central next Thursday.
South Central 36
Eastern Wayne 8
WINTERVILLE -- South Central quarterback Billy Walling threw three touchdown passes in the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference opener for both teams.
Brandt Ellis caught two touchdown passes and Tyrus Reid hauled in the other for the Falcons. Teammates Frank Quinto and Calvin Barnes each provided a rushing touchdown.
Eastern Wayne details were not available at press time.
The Warriors (1-2, 0-1 ECC) entertain Washington next Thursday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Little Big Horn.
Middle schools
Greenwood 30, Spring Creek 24 -- Temarcus Ellis led Spring Creek with 219 yards rushing, including a 51-yard touchdown run. Allen Price added an 18-yard touchdown run. Additional details were not available at press time.
Brogden 48, Grantham 8 -- Kenny Casper rambled for three touchdowns on runs of 98, 40 and 15 yards for the Rams. Adrian Amerson, Dequan Braswell and Antonio Gaines combined for four touchdowns. Casper led the defense with seven solo tackles and an interception. Scott Holloman had five stops, including two for losses. Amerson and James Jones combined for 10 tackles. Brogden (3-0) travels to Eastern Wayne in the Wayne County Middle School Athletic Conference Division I opener for both teams. Grantham (0-3) entertains Spring Creek next Thursday.
Eastern Wayne 40, Mount Olive 0 -- Stacey Edwards (80 rushing yards, two TDs), Rico McCarter (23-yard TD reception), Jaimeer Broadhurst (74 yards, one TD) and Will White (58 yards, one TD) emerged the offensive leaders for the Warriors. Edwards recovered a fumble and had six tackles on defense. Cody Britt, Thomas Cooper and Charles Boyd contributed four tackles apiece. Eastern Wayne improved to 3-0.
