HAVELOCK -- Through the air or on the ground the Havelock offense made it look easy in getting Charlie Smith his first win at the helm of the Rams' program on Friday night in a 33-6 win over Eastern Wayne.
Havelock's Derek Belcher was 5-for-9 passing for 136 yards with two touchdowns and one interception to lead the Rams. Jake Turner had a 45-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and Belcher threw two touchdown passes of 50 and 55 yards to spot the Rams to a 19-0 lead at the half. Belcher was 4-of-8 passing in the first half for 135 yards. His touchdown throws went to Koyal George and Emmanuel Bland.
In the second half, Havelock got a one-yard touchdown run and a 45-yard interception return for a score.
Eastern Wayne (0-2) got on the board late in the fourth quarter when quarterback Zach Williams found Taylor Jackson on a 20-yard strike. Williams and Tyler Ham teamed for 142 yards in the air. Al Graham paced the Warrior ground attack with 64 yards on 17 carries.
Havelock and Eastern Wayne both finished with 228 yards of total offense. The Warriors had 12 first downs to the Rams nine.
Adrian Black had nine tackles for the Warrior defense, while Chris Davis added six tackles. David Ratliff and Brad Brofft had fumble recoveries as John Yates added an interception for the Warriors, who host South Central in both team's Class 3-A Estern Carolina Conference opener on Friday.
