Prep football -- Big third quarter haunts Rosewood

Rosewood was blitzed by 23 third-quarter points as Hobbton outpaced the Eagles 41-29 at Branch Pope Field Friday night.

Hobbton took a 18-14 halftime lead and padded it as Ross Thornton, John White and Derrick McDougal all ran for touchdowns in the critical third period. Thornton threw for 136 yards on 4-for-7 passing and rushed for two scores to pace Hobbton.

Rosewood's Derrick Bennett led the Eagles with 67 yards rushing and a touchdown, while quarterback Danny Langston threw a pair of touchdown passes and ran for another score. Langston had 63 yards through the air and ran for 56 more.

Dustin Overman and Kyle Grey caught scoring passes for Rosewood (1-2). Defensively, Anthony Holland had 16 tackles and a fumble recovery, Markas Brunson blocked a punt, got a sack and notched six tackles. Bradley Mullins made eight tackles for the Rosewood defense.

The Eagles host Roanoke Rapids on Friday.
