Charles B. Aycock picked up the necessary points in singles play and handed Eastern Wayne an 8-1 loss in an Eastern Carolina 3-A match contested at the Wayne Community College courts Thursday afternoon.

The Golden Falcons (7-1) remained unbeaten in six ECC outings.

"It was a quality conference win," Aycock coach Luke Vail said. "Raychel (Batts), Carlyn (Claiborne), Nicole (Taylor) and Laine (Purcell) all played very well in singles.

"Hadley Peacock played solid tennis in number two doubles. We were much sharper today than yesterday. Eastern Wayne is a much improved team."

Aycock swept the doubles.

The Warriors' Lauren Bynum rallied for a 6-3, 5-7, 7-2 win against Patricia Owen at No. 5 singles.

"(A) three-hour match so like the Southern Wayne match," said Eastern Wayne coach Nancy Dawson. "A lot of balls hit (and) the score not indicative of the level of play. (There were) a lot of deuce points."

Eastern Wayne (3-4) exited 2-3 in the ECC.
