Kenan slugs out tie with Devilpups

JACKSONVILLE -- Demetrio Barrera scored twice and Mario Mejia added a single goal as James Kenan battled Lejuene to a 3-3 tie Tuesday evening.

The Tigers (3-1-1) travel to Pender today.

Lomonaco tallies four goals for NJ

KENLY -- Jake Lomonaco registered the hat trick-plus-one (four goals) as North Johnston dumped Louisburg 6-2 in a non-conference match Tuesday evening.

Lomonaco earned the natural hat trick with three first-half goals, including an assist from Raul Farfan on the first score of the game. Lomonaco completed his four-goal effort in the 52nd minute off an assist from sophomore midfielder Dale Price.

Lomonaco, who has eight goals in the Panthers' three wins this season, also assisted on a goal by Brooks Sullivan in the 47th minute.

The visiting Warriors allowed an own goal in the 78th minute to complete the Panthers' scoring.

Senior keeper Jay Pittman and sophomore Josh Cooper combined for four saves against Louisburg, which exited 0-2-1 overall.

North Johnston (3-2) extended its modest win streak to three games and travels to Southern Vance today. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Wayne Christian falls to F. Christian-RM

Brian Alexander's first-half goal seemed to be all the offense Wayne Christian needed Tuesday afternoon against traditional independent schools power Faith Christian of Rocky Mount.

But the visiting Patriots notched goals in the 38th and 50th minutes to claim a 2-1 victory.

"This was a close match throughout," Wayne Christian coach Dean Williams said. "We had our opportunities, but we just couldn't get the ball in the back of the net.

"(We) are really improving with every game, but we still have a lot to correct."

Alexander tallied the Eagles' goal in the 14th minute off Taylor Gardner's assist.

Jeremy Fleming had seven saves for Wayne Christian.

The Eagles (1-2) get a rematch with the Patriots on Sept. 7 at Rocky Mount.
