BETHEL -- North Lenoir evened its Carolina/Eastern Plains 1-A/2-A Conference worksheet at 2-2 with a 9-0 dismantling of North Pitt on Thursday afternoon.
Morgan Worthington, Mary-Linton Smith and Rachel Sasser each beat their respective opponent 6-0, 6-0. The Hawks also received singles wins from Lauren Harris, Heather Phillips and Ruthanne Hardy. Hardy had the closest match -- a 6-3, 6-3 outcome against Jacinta Jones at No. 3.
"Ruthanne had a tight match, but she stayed focused and was able to pull it out," first-year North Lenoir coach Courtney Harrell said. "Kristen (Penuel) and Jordan (Hoffman) had a wonderful performance at number three doubles. We had some rough matches earlier this week, but the girls looked fresh today.
"I'm looking forward to next week's match against a strong team in Spring Creek."
The Hawks (3-3) face the unbeaten Gators next Tuesday at Walnut Creek Country Club.
