Hakeem Coley rushed for three touchdowns as Goldsboro defeated Bertie in junior varsity action Thursday evening at Cougar Stadium. It was the season-opening game for both teams.
Coley scored touchdowns on runs of 24, 42 and 24 yards and finished the contest with 172 yards rushing on just eight attempts.
Q.T. Battle provided Goldsboro's other score, a four-yard scramble in the first quarter. Battle added 142 yards on 10 carries and a two-point conversion.
Brandon Stokes contributed 46 yards on eight rushes.
Justin Hall emerged the Cougars' defensive leader with eight tackles, while Battle had five stops. Stokes, Ramah Lennox, Drew Pfifer and A.J. Holloway each had four tackles.
Goldsboro (1-0) entertains Elizabeth City Northeastern next Thursday. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
