Tennis -- Spring Creek cages Panthers

Two-time defending Carolina Conference singles champion Stacy Smith returned to the Spring Creek lineup Thursday afternoon and looked as if she hadn't missed the team's match earlier this week.

Smith dusted North Pitt's Nicki Leggett 6-1, 6-0 as the Gators rolled to a 9-0 decision at the Walnut Creek Country Club courts. Spring Creek improved to 2-0 overall and 2-0 against Carolina/Eastern Plains 1-A/2-A Conference opposition.

Sarah Warren, Christie Bradshaw, Sarah Bragg, Kelly Murphy and Cynthia Breault each picked up a singles win. Warren and Bragg each shut out their respective opponent.

Smith and Janet Potter emerged victorious at No. 2 doubles, while Murphy-Melanie Harlow claimed an easy win at No. 3.

Spring Creek entertains the Greene Central junior varsity team next Tuesday afternoon.
