SEVEN SPRINGS -- Charles B. Aycock sophomore Garrett Davis scored four goals as the Golden Falcons erased an early 2-0 deficit at Spring Creek and went on to claim a 7-2 win on Wednesday evening.
In their season opener, the Gators went up 2-0 after the first 20 minutes on a pair of strikes by Ricardo Ramirez.
Davis put Aycock on the board in the 25th minute, while junior Daniel Derwitz equalized the game seven minutes later on an assist from Taylor Beaman.
After halftime, Davis scored three-straight goals in a thirty minute span as the Golden Falcons took control of the match and led 5-2. Derwitz and sophomore Richard Holder assisted Davis' final two goals. His first goal of the second half came on a penalty kick after a foul was called in the box on the Gator goalie.
The goalie was issued a red card on the play, which happened 12 minutes into the second half, forcing Spring Creek to play a man down the rest of the way.
Late in the game, Holder and freshman Jordan Pearson added their first varsity goals to finish out the scoring. Davis and Drew Mussleman (FR) dished out assists on the final two goals.
"We were slow to get out in the first half due to playing a hard game on Tuesday," Aycock coach Kevin Adkins said. "But, the fitness of the team in the second proved that it is the main thing about soccer."
Jake Bunn had five saves in goal for the Falcons (2-0), who return to action on August 23 at Greene Central.
Spring Creek (0-1) travels to Southern Wayne on August 23.
Rosewood blanked
by Panthers
East Duplin's Fernando Lemus and Michael Bautista scored one goal each as the Panthers defeated Rosewood 2-0 at Branch Pope Field on Wednesday night.
Coming off of a 3-0 loss to Charles B. Aycock on Tuesday, Eagles' coach Daniel Mitchell believes fatigue played a factor in the loss.
"We were slow and sluggish. The physical game (Tuesday) had something to do with that, but basically they just beat us to the ball and controlled the game."
Antell Richards had his second-straight double-digit save performance in goal for Rosewood as Richards had 10 saves against the Panthers, who outshot the Eagles 14-4.
Rosewood travels to North Lenoir on Monday.
