K-Tribe rallies late, deals Wilmington 10-inning loss

WILMINGTON, Del. -- Kinston rallied from behind in the final four innings and dealt Wilmington a 4-1, 10-inning loss in Single A Carolina League action Saturday evening at Frawley Stadium.

The K-Tribe improved to 20-14 in second-half play and remained 21Ú2 games behind Winston-Salem in the Southern Division. Kinston (53-50) won the first-half division championship.

Meanwhile, the Blue Rocks (20-14) lead Frederick by 51Ú2 games in the Northern Division.

Wilmington rocked Indians prospect Adam Miller for six runs in the first inning and rolled to a 9-1 win against the K-Tribe Friday evening.

Blue Rocks starter Mike Stodolka (1-2) faced one above the minimum through four before losing a no-hit bid with an infield single by Pat Magness leading off the fifth. The southpaw went five shutout innings allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out four batters.

The win for Stodolka marks his first since April 28, 2003. The 22-year-old is coming off Tommy John surgery that cut his year short last season.

Stodolka had the luxury of a commanding 6-0 lead after just one inning as the Rocks sent ten men to the plate in the frame against 19-year-old Adam Miller (0-1). Bernard Stephens hit a two-run single in the six-run first, extending his hitting streak to a team-best 12 straight. Miller was hurt by a pair of errors in the frame allowing four unearned runs amongst the six total.

Neither team would score again until the seventh inning when Shane Costa drilled a three-run homer to right field for a 9-0 Wilmington lead. Steve Chamberlain allowed a run in the ninth after two walks and a pair of wild pitches for the 9-1 final.

The teams conclude their four-game series today.

NOTES: The Blue Rocks have won six of the nine meetings against the Kinston Indians at Frawley Stadium this season. ... In those nine games at Frawley, Wilmington has outscored the K-Tribe 60-42.
