PIKEVILLE -- Facing a 3-2 count in the top of the sixth, Wayne County Junior American Legion player Joseph Davis drilled a two-out double to right center field to break a 5-5 tie as Post 11 went on to top Aycock 11-7 at C.B. Aycock High School Tuesday.

John Yates followed Davis, who had three RBI on the game, with a two-run home run to push Wayne County's lead to 8-5 heading into the bottom of the sixth.

Wayne County (13-2, 9-1) benefited from three Aycock errors in the seventh and tacked on three more runs.

Davis also proved key on the mound, picking up the win in relief of starter T.J. Hinson. Davis inherited a bases-loaded jam with no outs in the fourth and pitched out of the situation without giving up runs. Shortstop Brady Wiggins and second baseman Michael Stewart turned a 6-4-3 double play to end the fourth.

Aycock (13-4, 7-4) stranded 13 runners on the game and left at least two on base in four of the seven innings.

Will Spence paced Aycock with three hits and two RBI, while Christopher King had two hits, including a home run, and two RBI. Bennett Jeffreys, Bradley Taylor and Joseph Toler had two hits each for Aycock.

Joey Moye had three hits and an RBI for Wayne County as Tyler Ham contributed a double and an RBI.

Brandon Price picked up the loss for Aycock in 52Ú3 innings of work. Jackson Massey tossed the final 11Ú3 innings.

Division leading Wayne County faces Rocky Mount at Southern Wayne High School in a double-header on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Aycock concludes its regular season tonight at home against Snow Hill.
