Snow Hill Legion takes out Ahoskie

AHOSKIE -- Snow Hill American Legion catcher Joe Wade had a perfect, five-for-five performance as Post 94 evened its overall record at 2-2 with a 14-3 win in seven innings over Ahoskie on Sunday.

Five different Snow Hill players registered two hits each as Jordan Scott, Blake Taylor, Jon Conway and Jared Williamson had two hits each. Williamson drove in three runs, while Conway knocked in two.

Chip Wall picked up the win in relief.

Snow Hill opens Area One East/South Division play at home against Pitt County Post 39 tonight at 7 p.m.

AHOSKIE -- The Snow Hill Junior American Legion team suffered a 7-6 loss on Sunday at Hertford County in nine innings.

Hunter Chase led Post 94 with two hits, including a double, with an RBI. Chase also had the loss in relief.

Snow Hill (3-2, 1-1) travels to face Wayne County today at Southern Wayne High School.

takes two at Fuquay tourney

FUQUAY-VARINA -- Wayne County's Junior American Legion team won two games in a rain-shortened tournament this weekend at Fuquay-Varina.

After Friday's slate of games were rained out, the Wayne County team opened Saturday's action with a 9-7 win over Wake Forest-Rolesville. Joseph Davis got the win in relief of starter David Combs, while Ashton Langston picked up the save. Offensively, Austin Hood led the team by going 2-for-4 with a double and stealing four bases. Tyler Ham doubled and went 2-for-3, while Davis had a run-scoring double, Joey Moye doubled, tripled and drove in three runs and David Jones was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

On Sunday, Evan Cavanaugh was stout on the mound as Wayne County beat Sanford 9-4. Justin Williams came in to throw two innings of relief in support of Cavanaugh, who got the win. Hood was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI, Davis had a pair of doubles and drive in two runs, Brady Wiggins doubled and drove in two runs and T.J. Hinson doubled for the Wayne County offense.

Wayne County (5-1) takes on Snow Hill at Southern Wayne High School Tuesday afternoon.
