KENLY -- North Brunswick eliminated North Johnston from the N.C. High School Athletic Association's Class 1-A softball playoffs Saturday after shutting out the Lady panthers 6-0 Saturday evening at the North Johnston diamond.

North Brunswick scored two runs in the fourth inning, three more in the fifth and two in the seventhth to advance to the Class 1-A Final Four.

The Panthers had their chances with runners on second and third with no outs in the second inning. But Robyn Creech was thrown out at home while trying to score on a ground ball to second. Ashley Woodall then singled to load the bases with one out, but a strike out and a ground out ended the threat.

Creech again reached second base in the fourth on a single and a passed ball, but the Lady Panthers stradned her there. North Johnston would only reach base one more time in the last three innings.

Creech and Woodall had two hits each for North Johnston, with Evans getting the only other hit.

Evans faced just nine batters the first three innings and struck out six. However, she began the fourth with back to back walks, and both would score after stolen bases and ground outs.

Pellom reached base four times on three hits and a walk. She scored three of those times. The Scorpions used seven hits and five Evans walks to score their runs. Six of North Brunswick's runs were scored with two outs.

The Panthers finish their best season win wise with a 23-2 record. Evans finished with a 20-1 record and her six earned runs allowed North Brunswick surpassed the four she had for the entire season.

North Johnston seniors Ashley Tart, Ashley Woodall, Janna Rogerson and Emily Levick played their final game as Panthers.
