MANTEO -- Bailey Daniels ripped the first pitch of the bottom of the 11th to right center for a solo home run as Manteo beat scrappy Eastern Wayne 3-2 Tuesday in the first round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association's 3-A state playoffs.

Daniels pitched just more than nine innings during the three-and-a-half hour battle. Airlon Vinson -- who relieved for starter Jesse Lancaster -- took the loss for the Warriors, who battled back from a 2-0 deficit and left countless Manteo (19-3) players on base.

Down 2-0, Garrett Sutton laced a double to center to score Tyler Mitchell in the fifth, and a inning later, Tyler Ham's RBI double tied it 2-2.

"I knew we weren't going to bow out," Eastern Wayne coach Jabo Fulghum said. "Our kids have been there, done that. There's not a situation we haven't been in."

In the seventh, the Redskins had the bases loaded and one out. Lancaster answered the call, stirking out Joel Creef and Carey Foster.

In the eighth, Daniels had the potential winning hit on a single to left field, but Mitchell threw out Manteo's Scott Harvey at home.

Sutton and Lancaster got on with hits in the 10th, sending Daniels off the mound throwing more than 110 pitches Tuesday night and no outs.

But Hayman came on in relief, and his off-speed pitch kept the Warriors from an extra hit. Designated hitter Matt Hemenway hit a slow roller to third, and Creef threw it home for the out, keeping Eastern Wayne from the third run.

The Warriors ended the season at 12-13.
