WILSON -- Fifth-seeded Wayne Country Day knocked off fourth-seeded Community Christian on Tuesday 2-1 as a penalty-kick shootout was used to decide the outcome after 100 minutes of play in the first round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 1-A playoffs.

The Chargers' Christin Grubb, Louise Northington and Virginia Best all made penalty kicks to secure the win.

Wayne Country Day now moves on to face Greenfield School on Friday at Greenfield in a rematch of last year's Final Four.

The Chargers' Sarah Coleman scored her teams only goal during regulation on an assist from Best in the second half. Community Christian also scored its only goal in the second as the games first 80 minutes finished in a 1-1 tie.

Two, 10-minute overtimes and two, five-minute sudden death periods could not decide the outcome as the game was then sent to a shootout.

Wayne Country Day outscored the Cyclones 3-1 during the shootout.

Ellen Elmore had 15 saves for the Chargers in the win.
