VASS -- Charles B. Aycock's Dustin Smith shot a two-day, 179 at the Woodlake Golf Club in Vass on Tuesday in the Class 3-A N.C. High School Athletic Association state championships.
Smith finished a stout senior season after finishing second in the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference.
Wilson Fike's John Tyler shot a 140 to win individual medalist honors. SouthWest Guilford won the team 3-A title with a 605.
"The course was challenging. He shot a 90 the first day and that set the tone for him," Aycock coach Gary Hales said. "He had a good season though ... finished second in the conference."
