Wayne Country Day's tennis team finished tied for third in the Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference tournament held at Wayne Community College on Saturday.

The doubles tandem of George Mayo and Byron Bryan finished second at number three doubles after upsetting the top-seeded team from Rocky Mount Academy.

The Chargers' Alex Proimos was recognized with all-conference honors, while Ross Wilson received honorable mention.

"The boys had a great season. They have matured as players both on and off the court," Wayne Country Day coach Jo Ann Logan said. "The future looks promising for boys tennis at WCDS."

Wayne Country Day now moves on to the 1-A North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association tournament on Friday at Barton College in Wilson.
