Tennis -- Gators top North Lenoir

KINSTON -- Spring Creek claimed the first four singles matches, while its first two doubles teams continued to roll as the Gators defeated North Lenoir 6-3 on the Bill Fay tennis courts in Kinston on Thursday.

The Gators (15-2) finished 14-2 in the Classes 1-A/2-A Carolina/Eastern Plains Conference and will likely open up the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1-A dual-team playoffs at Bear Grass next Tuesday.

North Lenoir will open up the 2-A dual team playoffs at home next Tuesday against the Northern Carolina Conference runner-up.

Will Daniel, Cliff Wilson, Grey Wilson and Ricky Galloway all claimed singles wins for the Gators.

The doubles combinations of C. Wilson-G. Wilson (18-2) and Will Daniel-Galloway (14-0) each won their matches as well.

The Gators tied the regular-season school record for victories.

Ryan Ipock and Rufus Hill won at number five and six singles, respectively, for the Hawks, while also teaming up to pick up a win at number three doubles.

North Lenoir is 13-7 overall and making its second straight postseason appearance.
