SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek's Jed Potter delivered a line drive single to right-center field in the bottom of the eighth, scoring Norman Sites for the game-winning run as the Gators posted a big, 6-5 win over Ayden-Grifton.

Potter was two-for-four on the game with a double.

The win improves Spring Creek (14-9) to 8-3 in the Class 1-A Carolina Conference, currently one game ahead of the Chargers and Princeton in the win column at the top of the conference standings with one game left at North Johnston on May 11. A win over the Panthers clinches at least a share of the conference title for the Gators.

"I can not say enough about how these young men have come together as a team and are maturing as baseball players," Spring Creek coach Roger May said. "In the last three weeks we have made some big strides in this program and are building a foundation for future years. It's been a team effort."

Jes Snyder picked up the win on the mound for Spring Creek, coming on in relief in the top of the eighth with one out and the bases loaded. Snyder picked off a runner then provided a strike out to get out of the jam.

Alex McCarter pitched all eight innings for the Chargers (7-3 Carolina) and picked up the loss.

Michael Sigmon got the start for the Gators and pitched a solid six and one-third innings.
