Track -- NJ girls shade Spring Creek

KENLY -- North Johnston's track teams pulled off a sweep in a tri-meet with Spring Creek and North Duplin Thursday at the Panthers' home track.

The Panther boys shaded the Gators by one point in a 78-77 shootout, with North Duplin third with 30 points. For the girls, North Johnston's team depth and a lot of strong individual performances were enough to beat Spring Creek. The Panther girls scored 87 points to Spring Creek's 54. North Duplin was third with 16 points.

The Gators' McKenzie Jones pulled off a sweep of the sprints, taking the 100 (11.33 seconds); 200 (22.33) and the 400 (55.1). Spring Creek's Paul Richter won the 800 meters.

North Johnston athletes wonfour of the six field events, while North Duplin's Juan Quintanilla won the shot put for the Rebels (45 feet, 9 inches). Spring Creek's Clayton Jones won the discus with a toss of 119 feet.

In the girls events, Spring Creek's Christina Fenwick was a triple winner, with victories in the long jump (13-4 3/4), triple jump (29-1) and the 300 hurdles (59.13). North Duplin's Amy Arthur swept the distance events with wins in the 1600 (5:43) and the 3200 (12:22).

Like the boys, North Johnston's girls won four of six field events. while Heather Creech won the 800 meters (3:01) and Ashley Sharpe won the 200 (31:57).

Wayne Country Day's girls also ran in the meet, although the Chargers were not assessed a team score. Top performers for Wayne Country Day were Courtney Roberson, who finished second in the 100 hurdles (26.02), Allie Mouw, second in the 100 dash (15.12), and Desiree Tapley, second in the shot put (25-3).
