WILMINGTON -- Southern Wayne's Josh Narron went 3-3 with a double and two RBI as the Saints fell just short in a 5-4 loss at Class 4-A non-conference opponent New Hanover on Wednesday.

The Wildcats trailed 4-3 going into the bottom of the seventh but got three straight hits followed by two bases loaded walks to pick up the comeback win.

Southern Wayne's Matthew Holloman had a hit and an RBI, while Nathan Fail doubled and scored a run.

The Saints played errorless defense behind pitchers Adam Martin and David Combs.

"We did some good things, made some great plays on the infield and we swung the bats better," Southern Wayne coach Trae McKee said. "We've just got to come through better with men in scoring position."

The Saints left seven men stranded in scoring position.

New Hanover's Daniel Barker picked up the win in relief. David Combs got the loss for the Saints (8-10), who travel to conference-leader West Carteret today in Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference play.

The Saints are 5-6 in the ECC and currently in sixth place.
