Track -- GC girls win EPC title

BETHEL -- Greene Central's Teketia May emerged the Class 3-A Eastern Plains Conference field athlete of the year, while teammate Shontay Dodd shared the track athlete of the year after Tuesday's season-ending girls meet at the E.R. McNair track at North Pitt.

The Rams edged runner-up South Lenoir 147-143. SouthWest Edgecombe finished a strong third at 104, followed by North Lenoir (52), Tarboro (41) and the host Panthers with 31.

May emerged the EPC champion in the long jump and participated on the winning 800-meter relay team. Joining her were Alisha Best, Olisa Thaggard and Dodd.

Dodd, who tied with South Lenoir's Jess King for track athlete of the year, claimed conference titles in 100 and 200 run.

Thaggard prevailed in the triple jump, while Sierra Bryant took the 100 high hurdles championship.

Each individual event winner and winning relay team earned all-EPC honors.

The Rams' Andre Quinerly was named EPC coach of the year.
