Softball -- CBA's Edgerton picks up first varsity win

SNOW HILL -- Charles B. Aycock's Brittani Edgerton picked up her first career varsity win as Charles B. Aycock defeated Greene Central 9-1 on Wednesday in non-conference action.

Edegerton yielded just four hits and one run in seven innings, walking only one.

Kandace Burroughs and Meredith Wilkerson paced the Golden Falcons (13-0) at the plate with two hits each. Burroughs doubled twice, while Wilkerson scored two runs.

Lauren Wooten added an RBI.

Greene Central's Elizabeth Cooper had two hits, including a double. Lauren Horton drove in the Rams' lone run in the bottom of the fourth.

Aycock exploded for seven runs in the top half of the fourth.

Cassie Webb picked up the loss for the Rams (3-12), who return to Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference action on Friday at home against South Lenoir.

Ranked third in the latest ihigh.com coaches and media 3-A softball poll, the Golden Falcons travel to face Southern Wayne on Friday.

Golden Falcons stay perfect

PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock's Shelly Lancaster had two home runs to help guide the Golden Falcons to an 11-1 win at home over SouthWest Edgecombe in non-conference play.

With the win, Aycock improves to 9-0 overall and will take a 5-0 Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference mark into Friday's contest at Southern Wayne.

Julia Lancaster added three hits for Aycock, while Kristen Paynter had two hits.

Rusti Talton picked up the win as Leiren Tillman provided solid relief work.
