KENLY -- North Johnston's Jenna Gudac posted a natural hat-trick (three-straight goals) in the first half to lead the Panthers to a 3-1 win over North Lenoir, who came into the game unbeaten in the Classes 2-A Eastern Plains/1-A Carolina/Super-Six Conference.

Gudac now has 22 goals in 16 games this season for the Panthers (8-7, 6-3 EPC/C/SS).

North Johnston's Martha Godwin played a huge roll in the win as well. She came into the game with 11 goals, but sacrificed her scoring prowess to mark North Lenoir field-catalyst Katie Maloney one-on-one.

"She (Godwin) recognized that she could sacrifice goals for defense. She's the only girl that could match up with Katie, and she did an outstanding job on her," North Johnston coach Brent Walston said.

Godwin also assisted on the first of Gudac's goals on a throw-in at the 13-minute mark.

Trudy Brown and Heather Creech also had assists.

Three minutes into the second half, Elizabeth Foye scored for North Lenoir (12-1-1, 8-1 EPC/C/SS), who look to rebound April 26 at Tarboro.

The Panthers travel to Southern Nash today in non-conference action.
