Baseball -- SW goes 1-2 at W. Brunswick tourney

SHALOTTE -- Southern Wayne's Ashton Langston pitched seven innings, yielding on two runs on five hits as the Saints wrapped up the Beach Diamond Invitational at West Brunswick High School with a 3-2 win over Bishop Ireton (Va.) on Wednesday.

Southern Wayne (7-8) finished the tournament with a 1-2 mark and will take a 4-5 record in Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference action into an April 20 tilt at South Central.

Langston struck out eight against two walks with three hit batsmen in his third complete game of the season on Wednesday.

Matthew Holloman paced the Saints at the plate with two hits, including a double, while Nathan Fail and Austin Hood had one hit each.

Tuesday's rain-slowed action saw Southern Wayne fall to Wallace-Rose Hill 4-2 in a five-inning game.

Adam Martin picked up the loss, yielding four runs on five hits with three walks and one strikeout.

Hood got the lone hit for the Saints, who managed just 11 hits in the three-game stretch over the tournament.

Against North Davidson on Monday, Southern Wayne lost 11-7 under rainy conditions.

Brady Wiggins had two hits for Southern Wayne, while T.J. Hinson and Josh Narron knocked in one run each.

Holloman struck out six in five innings but picked up the loss yielding seven runs on five hits.
