Chris Carr doubled twice in four at-bats as Southern Wayne cruised past Goldsboro 17-2 in Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference action Friday evening.

Carr finished with three hits. Josh Narron provided two hits in five plate appearances and Matthew Holloman doubled in a two-hit effort. Overall, the Saints collected 10 hits in the contest, which was shortened to five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.

Adam Martin earned his first varsity win on the mound, striking out three and yielding two one hit. Devin Graves and David Combs combined for three innings of six-strikeout relief.

Monquavius Edwards went the distance and suffered the pitching loss for the Cougars.

Southern Wayne (4-6, 2-5 ECC) entertains West Craven next Tuesday, while Goldsboro is the guest of county rival Charles B. Aycock next Thursday afternoon. The Cougars are 1-10 overall and winless in six conference outings.
