Track -- SW hosts first track in 25 years

DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne hosted its first track meet in 25 years Thursday afternoon, and earned a split against Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference rivals Kinston and West Craven.

The Saints boys, led by five individual wins and three relay victories, piled up 72 points. West Craven had 58, followed by Kinston with 39.

Durrell Washington (110, 300 hurdles), William Davis (100, 200), Thomas Oliver (1,600), Antwan Williams (800) and Terrance Davis (shot put) each won their respective events.

Southern Wayne took the 400, 800 and 3,200 relays.

Christy Dixon and Melissa Edwards each emerged a triple winner for the Saint girls, but visiting Kinston swept the three-team meet. The Vikings edged Southern Wayne 60-51, with West Craven a distant third at 33.

Edwards won the 100 high hurdles, triple jump and high jump. Dixon grabbed the 100, 200 and long jump.
