Track -- SW teams fare well at Kinston

KINSTON -- Southern Wayne took second place in a three-teram meet Tuesday ay Kinston High School. The host Vikings took first place, followed by the Lady Saints and Washington.
Melissa Edwards took two firsts, in the 100 hurdles (17.87) and the long jump (28-2 1/2). Christy Dixon was also a double winner, in the 100 meter dash (13.1) and the 200 (28.27).
Edwards and Dixon won a third event, teaming with Debony Jones and Aldonna Jones to win the 400 relay (53.88).
Aldonna Jones took first in the discus (67-0) nd second in the shot put (24-9 1/4) and the 200 (29.22).
Ebony Darden and Zakiya Jones had a 1-2 finish in the 400, with Darden winning in 1:09.2 and Jones second in 1:09.8.
Saint boys knock off
Kinston, Washington
KINSTON -- Southern Wayne's boys swept the relay races and sprung to a win over Kinston and Washington in a track meet Tuesday on the Vikings' track.
The Saints won the 400 relay with Desmond Faison, Randy Faire, Ronald Cox and Will Davis exchanging ther baton in 46.2 seconds. The 800 relay was won in 1:38 with Faison, Michael Warren, Derrick Lathan and Cox doing the work.
The 1600 realy saw Quinton Thompson, Thomas Oliver, Mustafa Springston and Antwan Williams clock a winning time of 4:04. the 3200 relay saw Thornton, Oliver, Springston and Williams turn a 9:31 pace to win.
Other first-place finishers for Southern Wayne included Will Davis (100, 11.28), Springston (1600m 5:22), Antwan Williams (800, 2:23), and Tewrance Davis (shot put, 43-5).
The Saints had a 1-2-3 finish in the 800, with Springston coming in second to Williams at 2:26 and Oliver in third at 2:31. Davis was second in the 200 meters (23.61), with Lathan third (25.64) and Marcus Oates fourth (25.68).
Lathan was second in the triple jump (35-10) and Davis was third in the discus (104-5 3/4).
