KENLY -- Rosewood scored all three of its goals in the first half and held off North Johnston 3-2 in Class 2-A Eastern Plains/Classes 1-A Carolina/Super-Six Conference soccer action on Wednesday.

Rachel McCormick, Kerry Garner and Erin Thibodeau all scored goals for Rosewood (6-1 overall), who continued its solid regular season start at 3-0 in the conference.

Thibodeau had two assists, while Garner dished out one assist.

North Johnston's Jenna Gudac got the Panthers on the board at the 23-minute mark of the first half to make the score 3-1. Midway through the second half, Martha Godwin scored on a penalty kick to pull the Panthers closer.

Rosewood dodged a bullet when Eagle goalie Molly Grantham, who had eight saves, stopped a North Johnston penalty kick that would have tied the game with nearly 10 minutes left.

Eagle defenders Amber Rich, Stacy Ellis, Mikayla Young and Kandis Weeks were applauded for solid defensive efforts.

"Their (North Johnston) skill level was very high and they moved the ball well," Rosewood assistant coach Brian Brewer said. "I don't think their record is indicative of the talent level they have there."

The Eagles narrowly outshot the Panthers 14-12 on the game.

"Coming off of Monday's loss to North Lenoir, I was pleased with the effort," North Johnston coach Brent Walston said. "We played well and matched up with them, and our girls were definitely up for the game."

Allison Hinnant had four saves in goal for North Johnston (3-7, 1-3 EPC 2-A/CC 1-A), who hosts Tarboro on March 31. Rosewood hosts Kinston at 4 p.m. on Friday.
