Baseball -- Rose tops EW

GREENVILLE -- Eastern Wayne's Garrett Sutton, Matt Hemenway and Tyler Mitchell had two hits each for the Warriors in a 9-5 loss at defending Class 4-A N.C. High School Athletic Association champion Greenville Rose on Tuesday.
The Rampants also handed the Warriors a loss earlier in the season at the Warriors' field.
Sutton and Hemenway drove in runs on the game as the Warriors pulled to within one at 3-2 before Rose posted six runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
Jesse Lancaster added a double for the Warriors and picked up the loss on the mound. Lancaster pitched four innings, yielding five hits and four earned runs.
Garrett Bullock got the win for the Rampants in six innings of work. The left-hander struck out eight against two walks.
Eastern Wayne takes a 3-1 record in the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference into Friday's tilt at home against Goldsboro.
