Jordan Yelverton doubled and turned in a three-hit performance as Wayne Christian belted Community Christian of Wilson 14-3 in a Class 1-A Carolina Christian Conference game Thursday.

It was the CCC opener for both teams.

Andrew Bass added three hits in three plate appearances for the Eagles, who climbed to 3-0 overall. Josh Brannan, Doug Johnson and J.D. Hightower each doubled in the contest, which was halted in the fifth inning due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Tyler Thomas contributed two hits.

Brannan emerged the winning pitcher, striking out four and allowing two runs (all earned) on two hits. Yelverton provided three innings of five-strikeout relief.

The teams were tied at 3-3 after 21Ú2 innings. Wayne Christian took control with a six-run third, which included three extra-base hits.

The Eagles entertain Hobgood Academy next Monday afternoon.
