SNOW HILL -- Greene Central pushed its overall mark to 5-0 on the season as the Rams claimed a convincing, 9-0 win over Charles B. Aycock at the Greene Central Tennis Complex on Wednesday.
The Rams got straight-set singles wins from Andrew Hulbert, Brent Darden, Lynn Hall, Chris Hardy, Dustin Grant and Bryan Sugg. In doubles, Greene Central's combinations of Hulbert-Darden, Hall-Hardy and Grant-Sugg all claimed wins.
Number five singles proved to be the afternoon's toughest match as Aycock's David Williams battled with Grant before falling 7-5, 6-3.
"Greene Central has an excellent team. They are one of the best teams at the state in any level. Yesterday, they put on a tennis clinic," Aycock coach Luke Vail said. "We are young and inexperienced, but they are clearly the best team we will face all year."
Aycock (2-1) travels to face Kinston today in its Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference opener.
