Saints rap out 12 hits against Eagles

Six players recorded two hits apiece as Southern Wayne defeated non-conference and county rival Rosewood for the second time three days -- this time by an 11-3 count on the Eagles' diamond.

Rachel Reynolds doubled twice in three at-bats and drove in two runs; and Katie Westfall turned in a 2-for-3, 2-RBI effort for the Saints, who remained unbeaten in two outings.

Danielle Wilkins, Scarlett Joyner and Beth Brown each delivered two hits. The trio combined for three RBI.

Dominique Williams contributed two hits in five plate appearances.

Karen Thornton emerged the winning pitcher, striking out four and walking one in the complete-game win. The Eagles collected 10 hits and scored three earned runs.

Bliss Parrish took the pitching loss for Rosewood. The right-hander gave up three runs (all earned) in a three-inning stint. Chandra Meadows and Jennifer Boren combined for four innings of relief.

Kasie Braswell and Courtney Hill each had two hits for the Eagles.

Southern Wayne opens its Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference schedule on the road next Tuesday at Kinston.

Rosewood (1-2) is the guest of Hobbton the same afternoon.

Narron solid in Warriors win

Eastern Wayne evened its record at 1-1 on the season as Ginny Narron yielded just two runs (one earned) in seven innings of work in a 5-2 win against Havelock at home.

The Warriors and Rams were knotted up at 1-1, until a four-run Eastern Wayne outburst in the fifth inning.

Narron, who gave up no walks on the mound, also added one hit and an RBI in the win.

Emily Sasser paced the Warriors at the plate with two hits and an RBI, while Kristen Elliott added a triple.

The Warriors open Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference play at Winterville South Central on Tuesday.

Aycock survives thriller

BENSON -- Charles B. Aycock's Jenny Jackson gave up just one run and struck out 11 West Johnston batters as the Lady Golden Falcons came away with a 4-1 win in nine innings at the Wildcats' diamond on Friday.

Aycock trailed 1-0 going into the top of the seventh but scratched for a run to tie the game as Jackson slammed the door on West Johnston the rest of the game.

C.B. Aycock posted a three-run rally in the top of the ninth to secure the win.

"I thought the game was an exceptionally played by both teams," Aycock coach David West Said. "I thought West Johnston had the upper hand all game. Then we never quit, even in the seventh inning.

"In the ninth, we were able to take advantage of some breaks and I thought the girls showed a lot of heart."

Jackson added two hits, including a double, while Kandace Burroughs added two hits in the win.

Aycock's Jennifer Williamson knocked in two runs, and Chrissy Setliff contributed a double.

The Falcons open Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference play on Tuesday at Goldsboro.

Hawks balanced in shutout

LAGRANGE -- North Lenoir's Randi Moulton smacked four hits, including a double and an RBI as the Hawks blanked East Duplin 5-0 at home on Friday.

North Lenoir improved its record to 5-0 as it travels to Richlands on Monday.

Hermia Humphrey yielded just two hits, no walks and struck out six Panther hitters in the complete-game win.

Leslie Oliver added two hits for the Hawks, while Rachel Cromer added a triple and two RBI.
