KINSTON -- Rosewood's Erin Thibodeau and Stephanie Behrend scored three goals each to guide the Eagles to season-opening, 6-0 win at Kinston on Monday.
Rachel McCormick dished out three assists, while Clare Narron added one assist.
Rosewood's defense limited the Vikings (0-1) to zero shots on goal for the game.
"The midfield did a good job of controlling the ball and setting up the forwards," Rosewood assistant coach Brian Brewer said. "They looked really good. It was a just a good first game."
Rosewood (1-0) travels to county rival Charles B. Aycock on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Rose blanks Golden Falcons
GREENVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock never found the net as Greenville Rose claimed a 4-0 win over the Golden Falcons on Monday.
"It wasn't a real good showing after we had Thursday and Friday off of school," Aycock coach John Fiddler said. "Rose played a solid game. I think we had two shots on net."
Aycock (0-1) will try and bounce back at home on Wednesday against Rosewood.
Middle School softball
Grantham 7, Rosewood 3 -- Grantham's Morgan Davis picked up the season-opening win, with six strikeouts. Haley Meadows struck out 13 batters in the loss for Rosewood. Taylor Reeds, Alicia Bradshaw and Davis had two hits each for Grantham. Mary Jo Moore tripled for Rosewood. Grantham (1-0) faces Eastern Wayne at home on Thursday.
