ANDERSON, S.C. -- Sean Barnett and Elton Coffield combined for 37 points and 17 rebounds to lead Mount Olive to a 92-72 win over host Anderson in NCAA Division II Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference men's basketball action Saturday afternoon.

The win, Mount Olive's third in a row, gives the Trojans their first 20-win season since 1998-99 and puts them within two wins of a school single-season record.

Mount Olive (20-6, 14-5 CVAC) took an early seven-point lead before Anderson (12-14, 8-11) rallied to go on top 21-20 with 6 minutes, 51 seconds left in the half.

The Trojans took the lead for good as Chris Bartley's 3-pointer sparked a run of seven unanswered points and Maurice Horton's 3-pointer capped a 15-2 run to give the Trojans a 35-23 lead with 2:06 remaining before halftime. The Trojans built the lead to 14 points before going into the locker room with a 39-27 halftime lead.

Barnett and Coffield combined for Mount Olive's first seven points of the second half as the Trojans extended their lead to 46-31. Anderson pulled within 56-48 before Elijah Rouse scored all of Mount Olive's next 10 points as the Trojans went on an 18-4 run to take a 74-52 lead with 6:35 remaining.

Mount Olive led by as many as 26 points and Anderson never got any closer than 16 the rest of the way.

Barnett finished with 19 points and eight rebounds, while Coffield tallied 18 points and nine rebounds. Rouse added 11 points for Mount Olive.

Chris Poore led Anderson with a game-high 28 points.

The win keeps Mount Olive within range of moving up to the No. 2 seed in next week's CVAC Tournament. The Trojans are already assured of hosting a quarterfinal-round game Wednesday at College Hall. The win moves the Trojans within a half-game of second-place Queens, pending Queens' results Saturday against Belmont Abbey and today against Anderson.

Saturday's win also gives Mount Olive its first 20-win season since posting a school-record 22-6 mark in 1998-99. The Trojans need two wins to tie the mark and three to set a new school record. Mount Olive concludes its regular season this afternoon as the Trojans play host to Coker in a CVAC match-up. The game was originally scheduled for Thursday, but was moved to today because of the snowstorm that hit the Carolinas. Coker (7-18, 4-15) fell to Lees-McRae Saturday 80-67.

Today's tip-off is 4 p.m. at College Hall.

ANDERSON, S.C. -- LaShonda Chiles scored a game-high 23 points as host Anderson defeated Mount Olive 90-56. Despite the loss, the Trojan women still have a chance to finish high enough in the conference standings to host a first-round game in the CVAC Tournament.

Mount Olive (10-16, 6-13 CVAC) went scoreless for nearly five minutes to begin the game as Anderson (20-6, 15-4) built a 13-point lead.

Ladora Charles scored the Trojans' first basket at the 15-minute, 15-second mark, but Anderson continued its run and built the lead to 30-6 with 8:46 left in the half. Mount Olive trailed 42-20 with 2:33 remaining before halftime when Tanika Hudgins triggered a 12-3 run with her second three-pointer of the half.

Charles' 3-pointer with seven seconds remaining pulled the Trojans within 45-32 at halftime.

Anderson rebuilt its lead to 21 early in the second half, but Mount Olive answered with a 9-0 run as Brandy Smith's basket with 16:06 remaining cut the lead to 53-41. But that would be as close as Mount Olive would get as Chiles' 3-pointer with 13:25 left gave Anderson a 65-45 lead.

Anderson led by at least 20 points the rest of the way.

Charles led Mount Olive with 17 points, while Latoria Harvey posted her 14th double-double of the year with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Saturday's game was in sharp contrast to the teams' first meeting in January when Mount Olive took Anderson to overtime before falling 95-92.

Anderson is ranked No. 9 in the NCAA II East Region Top 10.

The loss drops Mount Olive into a tie with Pfeiffer for eighth-place in the CVAC standings, a half-game ahead of Queens. Mount Olive could still finish in the No. 8 spot and host a first-round game Tuesday in the CVAC Tournament, pending the results of Pfeiffer's game against Erskine Saturday night; and Queens' games against Belmont Abbey Saturday night and against Anderson today. Pfeiffer defeated St. Andrews Friday night.

Anderson clinched the No. 2 seed in the tournament with Saturday's win.

Mount Olive concludes its regular season this afternoon as the Trojans play host to Coker in CVAC action. The game was postponed from Thursday due to the snowstorm that blanketed the Carolinas. Coker (16-10, 12-7), which is assured of the No. 4 seed in the CVAC Tournament, fell 68-57 at Lees-McRae Saturday.
